CHAD SHERRIN

Story-teller, Poet & Actor

Keynote Speaker & MC

Adventure Trekking Guide

A ‘baby-boomer’, Chad was born in Korumburra, Victoria and grew up on a soldier settlement dairy farm near Cobram in Victoria’s Murray Irrigation Area.

Following secondary schooling at Shepparton High School, in 1965 he enlisted in the Australian Regular Army, serving with the 8th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment in Malaysia and South Vietnam. During his tour of duty in South Vietnam he was awarded the Military Medal.

In 1976 Chad was selected for commissioning as an officer and retired from the Army as a major in 1990 from the position of Battalion Second-in-Command of Brisbane’s 8th/9th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment.

From here followed a five year career in real estate, and from 1995 to 2006 he took employment in the community sector as Development Manager at the Queensland Muscular Dystrophy Association and later Brisbane Legacy.

A keen adventurer, Chad now guides groups of trekkers across Papua New Guinea’s famed Kokoda Trail.  His knowledge of the jungle and its surrounding flora and fauna, and his detailed knowledge of the Kokoda campaign and the battles fought along the track ensure a special experience for all who trek with him.

Chad is a great raconteur with a keen interest in Australia’s rich history and bush poetry, which he combines as a speaker, story-teller and poet in Queensland and interstate.

He is an entertaining and compelling keynote and after dinner speaker, specialising in leadership and management; motivation and inspiration; Australia’s war history; and the history of early Australia.  An adaptable MC, his relaxed style, and ability to adapt to varied audiences ensures the success of any event.

Chad performs regularly as a story-teller and ‘bush poet’ throughout south-east Queensland,  combining anecdotes, verse and fact to bring Australia’s history to life, and as an actor has performed in community theatre  for over 10 years in musical, comedy and dramatic theatre.
